Gasification

What is gasification?

In a gasifier, solid material containing carbon is heated to a high temperature in the absence of (or with very little) oxygen supplied. INstead of bursting into flames the materials in the gasifier convert to a mixture of gases called SYNGAS. Syngas is comprised of mostly CO, H2, CH4 which are all volatile gases, with CO2 and other trace non-volatile gases.

Best suited for hard and dry materials including; plastic, paper, wood, cardboard, fabrics, bubble wrap, plastic film, rubber, etc. Material is shredded and then milled to a fine powder. The powder is then transformed into pellets of a consistent size and density. The pellets are then fed into the gasifier where, under high temperatures, the chemical bonds are broken. The volatile gases (mostly H2) are extracted and can be used as fuel for heat or used to generate electricity
